Ann Jefferies and the Fairies
Ann Jefferies and the Fairies: A Source Book for a Seventeenth-Century Cornish Fairy Witch (2021) (UK, US)
In 1645 a young Cornish woman named Ann Jefferies (aka Anne Jefferies and Ann Jeffries) began to see fairies. In the next year she would heal and curse people with the help of her fairy friends; predict the future; and support the royal cause in Cornwall – the Civil War was ending there. Her flirtation with the supernatural would bring her, in 1647, to jail and before the judges at the Assizes in Bodmin. In a decade when many witches were killed she was lucky to survive the experience. This volume brings together thirteen different sources for Ann ranging from forgotten royalist letters from 1647 to a 2017 essay on Ann and shamanic experiences.
