The Butter Love Spell May 28, 2017
Author: Beach Combing | in : Modern , trackbackLocation: Ireland (Wilde 1888, 195), late nineteenth century
Aim: ‘To Cause Love’
Ingredients: new plate, new butter, a bucolic retreat, and an ‘O woman loved by me’
Method: (i) buy a new plate, make sure that it has never been used
(ii) Put golden butter on the plate.
(iii) Find the one you love.
(iv) Make sure that your love is standing by a mill, a stream, and under a tree.
(v) Give them the plate with the butter.
(vi) Say, under your breath, ‘O woman, loved by me, mayest thou give me thy heart, thy soul and body.’
Dangers: Surely the great challenge here is to make sure that you get ‘O woman, loved by me’ to the right location without falling in the stream or dropping the plate and butter.
Antiquity: Well, the butter rules out the Paleolithic… Early modern Irish?
Help: Can anyone find any parallels to this love ritual, drbeachcombing AT yahoo DOT com
