Dear Reader, just finished my single summer course and now have two free-ish months for writing. Mrs B’s nausea has receded: we found that ripe melons somehow work for her. The baby is almost at six months, by the end of July it will be ‘viable’: serious kicking began last week. Little and Tiny Miss B’s are being read the poetry of  Edward Leer. Special thanks not only to the emailers (represented below) but also to Wade, Invisible, Chris S, Ricardo, Andy and Amanda who have sent me link upon link, and links that were so much better than the bits and pieces I was able to find.  If anyone has a good historical handshake for the July history roundups…

How to Train a Griffin: Judith from Zenobia writes in with an important re-reading, well worth checking out. I hope to get more on baby griffins at a later date.

Dragons in East Anglia: ANL ask whether this can really be a crocodile and asks whether crocodiles climbs trees.

Ghostly Perceptions: Chris from Haunted Ohio Books  with an extended bibliography and an example of sick ghosts.

Why Did the Axis Fight? Louis on Hitler and cowboys, and Norm on human failings

Fairy Mushrooms on Wight: ANL recalls a luminous mushroom.

Vampire Inn: AH makes a Stagg connection.

Hitler and Wittgenstein: Mike Dash has practically banished this story to Cobblers.

Dying Soldiers: Tacitus from Detritus and Nathaniel make points about medical care.

Roman Matrons and PoisonMike Dash with a nice addenda from early modern Italy.

First Blood: Billie Pink brings in the first British cavalry charge and Jullien points towards Belgrade

Fighting Over a Tennis Court: Mike L with an unusual battle from Hong Kong

Samurai in Spain: The great Mike Dash on castaway Japanese and Nathaniel on stolen boats, Ricardo meanwhile offers a Portuguese connection.

Hildegard of Bingen: KMH on Christian suffering.

Boy Genius in Wales: Mike Dash kindly writes in with a slave theory as does WG who is pointing past Poland.

Problems with Google Books Outside the US: Nathaniel on copyright being better in Australia

Starving Duel in Idaho: Chris from Haunted Ohio Books reduces this wonderful story to legend.

ISIS: Louis and MR gives some more geography

Charlotte Street: Chris from Haunted Ohio Books writes in with a theory of marital agression and Bob has the backstory.

    Enjoy July!
